Irish family history

We now live in the parish in which my paternal grandmother and her family were born and raised.

Rose Anne is my dad's mother. She moved to Co Dublin and married Thomas Smyth. They had 12 children - my dad Patrick Colm Smyth was the 10th child.

The Barn Church where Rose Anne was baptised:

Holy Trinity, Kildoagh, (Barn) Church.

This church stands about a mile and a half south of Bawnboy. It is a rare example of a barn church. The long narrow plan is most unusual with the altars on the rear wall and the congregation- men to the south and women to the north, facing each other. Read more here

We live in the townland of Gortnaleck, very close to Kildoagh.

We go to Mass in St Patrick's Church,  Kilnavart.

This impressive church was designed by the renowned Cavan church architect William Hague and was dedicated on the 12th April 1868. It is located in a ring fort where St Patrick is reputed to have built the first church in this area. Tradition says that after Patrick had destroyed the Crom Cruach idol, the local chieftain donated his fort to him. It has been a place of Christian worship ever since. I have 46 first cousins, all children of the children of Thomas & Rose Anne. We have a Facebook page  "Descendants of Thomas & Rose Anne Smyth "

This is a picture of their last 5 children, my dad is holding the hurling stick.
